Mont Choisy beach is found in the North of the island near Trou Aux Biches, it is the longest beach that can be found in Mauritius. As the water is very clear and there is also plenty of trees providing shade it is a very popular beach and during the weekends it can get very busy. As the beach is very long you are sure to find a spot that you like but beware this is one of the most popular beaches in Mauritius.

Over the years Mont Choisy beach has changed a lot, it is no longer as wide as it once was, as the sea level has risen there is not much left between the casuarinas trees and sea. In the last five years alone the sand width between the sea and trees have halved leaving less room for sunbathers to find a good spot. As the casuarinas trees shed their prickly pins and their small pine cone like seeds it can be painful to walk on them and may find hard to find a good spot to lay your beach towel without feeling uncomfortable.

There are other facilities on the beach such as showers, toilets and various food vendors. The water is ideal for snorkelling as the water is clear and there is virtually no seaweed. As there is a football pitch nearby during the week after school you may find a lot of young boys in the evening, after a good kick about under the hot scorching sun they like to have a dip in the sea. The beach is patrolled by local policemen and they can often be seen the only thing they don’t have is a lifeguard. But with a row of buoys separating the safe end to the deeper end for more experienced swimmers you should feel safe both in and out of water.

There are many well known hotels and restaurants in the area so it makes a good base if you also want to explore the island of Mauritius. As there is plenty to see and do in the north as there is the south you can get a taxi or bus to enjoy surrounding areas or hire a car to see the wonders in the south. However you decide to spend your holiday to Mauritius Mont Choisy beach is well worth a visit but be warned that it is not as beautiful as it once was.

Hi There, I am Viraj the President of Surf Life Saving (MRU). We are volunteers and our organisation also. We are seeking sponsors support, so that can have our own tshirts for lifeguards and basic equipments to patrol the beach of Mt Choisy. This is in our 5year strategic drowning prevention program, If there is any sponsors who want or wish to support us let me know as we need equipments to lifeguard Mt Choisy beach every weekends.
